Montessori Moment: Exploring Nature
“There must be provision for the child to have contact with nature; to understand and appreciate the order, the harmony and the beauty in nature." - Maria Montessori
Right now is an exciting time as children begin to observe signs of spring! Each teacher has their own way of bringing attention to these signs, from nature walks around town, to making signs for the gardens outside, to our elementary students continuing their Forest Friday explorations at Merryspring Nature Center.
The teachers also take great care to have natural materials in the classroom all year round including plants, natural fibers, wood, glass, and ceramics. The Jade Door friends welcomed salmon eggs this winter and have recently made pigment with beets!
As the weather begins to warm up, spending as much time as possible outside becomes more possible! Here is a great article that has Montessori-aligned activities that you can also include at home.
